Perhaps it is their large sweet eyes, furry winter coat, or shrill braying that draws people to this critter. It most certainly has something to do with their super size ears. Whatever it is, I have long been charmed by this beast of burden. Of course, the donkey’s most distinct feature is its ears but it also possesses many more subtle characteristics that I’ve tried to include. I make the sculpture entirely by hand from borosilicate crystal. The brilliant rainbow of colors, including violet, pink, purple and blue, is created when I apply pure gold to the glass while it is still molten. This application of pure gold to molten glass represents a colorful new dimension in glass sculpture. Donkey is 3.5 inches long and 2.75 inches tall.
