My interest in clowns began years ago when I had the opportunity to recreate in glass, two magical clown figurines for renowned clown artist Ron Lee. This clown, standing on tippy toes, can barely keep his feet on the ground as the balloon tries to lift him skyward. I make this clown entirely by hand without the use of molds or machines. It is made from borosilicate crystal, trimmed with 24k gold and I personally sign the piece upon its completion. With the exception of the purple glass balloon that I paint by hand to achieve its bright luster, all colors come from 24k gold. The brilliant rainbow of colors, including violet, pink, purple and blue, is created when I apply pure gold to the glass while it is still molten. The overall height to the top of the balloon is approximately 8 inches and it is 3 inches wide. Carefully chosen amethyst crystals complement each unique creation.
